Anti-Aging Ingredients That Keep You Young and Beautiful

5 Ingredients You Need In Your Anti-Aging Products

There are so many anti-aging products on the market right now, so it can be overwhelming when trying to decide which products you should add to your routine. On top of that, some products claiming to be anti-aging may not have strong enough ingredients, so you end up spending exorbitant amounts of money on something that doesn’t work. These are the 5 ingredients you should look for when shopping for anti-aging skincare:

Vitamin C

Commonly found in citrus fruits, vitamin C is packed with ascorbic acid and antioxidants. The antioxidants in vitamin C protect your skin from UV damage caused by free radicals. In two rodent studies, the instance of tumors and cancer caused by UV radiation was reduced with ascorbic acid from vitamin C. Another study found that topical application was better than ingesting vitamin C since it is absorbed directly to the skin. Vitamin C also increases collagen production, which decreases the appearance of wrinkles and rebuilds youthful skin at the cellular level. Because of the increased production of collagen, wounds heal faster so acne prone skin would heal quicker than without vitamin C. If all that wasn’t already great, some studies have found that vitamin C aids in strengthening the lipid barrier on skin, meaning water doesn’t evaporate through the skin as easily. This keeps your skin hydrated and smooth.

Retinol

Retinoids reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of collagen.

Another major complaint of aged skin is skin color. Retinol stimulates the production of new blood vessels in the skin, which improves its color and tone. Both the increased blood flow and collagen work together to heal the skin further and soften rough skin and fade dark spots. Retinoids can be harsh for some skin types and can cause burning sensations, scaling or dermatitis. It also causes sensitivity to sunlight and is recommended to only be used at night. Because of the downsides of including retinoids in anti-aging products, we exchanged it for CBD. The CBD Anytime Ultra Boost Creme uses CBD instead of retinol so those with sensitive skin can have an all-natural anti-aging moisturizer. It is a great moisturizer to use during the day too, since retinol can only be used at night.

 Antioxidants

Antioxidants are probably the most well known compound that fights aging, in all forms. Doctors regularly recommend diets high in antioxidants to combat cancer and it is just as beneficial to include it in skincare. Ingredients, like peonies, that have a high antioxidant content fight free radicals and allow your natural collagen levels to rise. This reduces the look of wrinkles, dark spots, and loose skin. Antioxidants also reduce inflammation, allowing the skin to heal itself like vitamin C does. Some antioxidants, when applied topically, even prevent skin cancer.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is a widely used chemical exfoliator found in citrus fruits. It can easily penetrate into the skin and break apart dead skin cells. This is a great ingredient for acne prone skin because of that process, since pimples are clogged pores filled with dead skin cells. Those skin cells that cause acne can also lead to less vibrant, dull skin. Cell turnover is faster when we are young so adding a product with glycolic acid when we are older will slough off those dead skin cells. Starting with a product with glycolic acid will also make the rest of your products absorb better, because of the ease at which it penetrates. At Earth to Malibu, we created the Anti-Aging Glycolic Cleanser to prep the rest of your routine for the other products you will use.

Hyaluronic Acid

Despite what you may think, hyaluronic acid doesn’t directly reverse signs of aging. It is a hydrator so it will plump the skin and that may lead to smoother skin and less visible wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid draws moisture from the deeper layers of the skin to the surface and if you live in humid areas it can draw moisture from the air onto your skin! It also keeps the moisture in your skin from evaporating into the atmosphere. The antioxidants in hyaluronic acid protects and heals your skin as well as promoting new skin cell growth.

All of these anti-aging ingredients can be found from plant-based sources. There is often more than one benefit to using a plant versus a synthetic alternative. It could be packed with antioxidants but also has antimicrobial properties. We are about to launch our Anti-Aging Kit packed full of all-natural, powerful botanical ingredients that will give flawless results.
